| False Alarm Prevention (November 4, 2002)
In 1990, Police Forces in Southern Ontario introduced stricter policies on responding to burglar alarms. Since introducing these new policies, dispatches on false alarms have been drastically reduced. Although this reduction is positive, Magen Security believes that there is still room for improvement. Our own statistics show that there are usually 3 categories for false alarms: 1. Improper use of the system. In our continuing effort to help combat false alarms, we feel that customer awareness can play a large part in this program. For that reason we have listed a few of the more frequent problems in this area:

PEEL REGIONAL POLICE SUBSCRIBERS |

Peel Regional Police - New by-law effective June 2002 Effective June 2002, Peel regional Police will only respond to two false alarms in a period of 365 days. After the second false alarm, a suspension notice will be issued to the premises detailing the suspension for 1 year. Guard response option is available for a normal cost. |

If you have changed or added or removed telephone lines, or if you have added or installed Centrex Service (the kind that requires the addition of 8 or 9 before dialing an outside line) be sure to let us know. | SMOKE DETECTORS | |
| The City of Mississauga reports that in 85% of cases in which a smoke alarm did not activate, it was due to a dead or missing battery/power source. Don't take chances. Replace your batteries twice a year. When switching your clocks to summertime and to wintertime, change your smoke detector batteries too!
